Forum Rules

Post by David »

Limerence.net is a forum that believes all views are acceptable as long as the following guidelines are kept to. This is a forum that is moderated with a light touch. Posts not adhering to the guidelines will be removed. Repeated offenders will be barred from using this site.

GENERAL ADVICE:

This is a confidential peer support group created by and for people who have experienced limerence. This forum is not a substitute for for professional help. Any advice you receive here should be taken in that context.

Feel free to share how you cope or have coped with various situations - that's the purpose of this forum!

Suffering from limerence can be difficult, and sometimes other posters may say or do things that you don’t approve of. We are all coming from different stages, situations, and backgrounds. Please be considerate and non-judgmental about how others live their lives. If you respond harshly or judgmentally, you will make it harder for others to post for fear of being judged.

CONFIDENTIALITY:

Confidentiality is important to the safety of everybody on our board. It is strongly recommended that members not directly or indirectly disclose their own identity.

You are also discouraged from registering with a user name, email address or avatar that could be recognized. Sites such as Yahoo and Google offer free anonymous email hosting. You are strongly encouraged not to register using any email address that other people may have access to as the board may send information about your account to that address.

Please don’t post any information that directly or indirectly discloses the identity of family members, friends or relationship partners. This includes (but is not limited to) direct information such as real names, photographs, addresses, phone numbers, email addresses, etc., as well as, indirect information such as local venues, etc.

If you should accidentally post information which compromises the confidentiality of yourself or someone close to you, you may contact a moderator or administrator designating the specific confidential information to be removed. As a rule, entire threads will not be removed. Read below on how to delete your own posts.

Do not copy the contents of any personal or legal communications, documents, written correspondence, email, social media posts, personal messages, texts and recorded conversations verbatim into posts.

Members having off-board information about another member shall not disclose it.

Do not solicit personal contact information from other members on the boards or in PM, as this is considered a violation of privacy. If someone volunteers their information in a personal context, it is their right to do so, but you are under no obligation to reciprocate.

Please respect the privacy of others as you wish your own privacy to be respected. If someone solicits personal contact information from you and the solicitation makes you uncomfortable in any way, you are encouraged to report the incident to the Administrator.

Any information posted which reveals identifying information about another individual will be modified or removed by the moderators.

PRIVATE MESSAGES:

Private Messages can only be viewed by the poster and recipient. The same rules which apply to forum posts also apply to Personal Messages. However, Private Messages are not moderated. If you should receive an inappropriate private message please use the "Report to Admin" icon at the top of each private message.

Take particular care to protect yourself when corresponding with strangers using this feature. You are not obliged to answer any Private Message you receive or to provide any information to any individual, no matter how friendly or trustworthy they may appear. Avoid giving out any personal or confidential information to anyone you do not know well.

MODERATION OF BOARDS:

This forum is self-moderated by the community here. Posts are not vetted before appearing. The only posts that are reviewed are those that are reported by any community members. Posts are only removed where there is a gross breach of the forum guidelines.

Advertisements, promotion of services, solicitations, offensive, violent or gratuitous and unrelated attention-seeking material will be removed and the member notified or given a warning.

We are a diverse community, comprising many races, religions, value systems, and beliefs. Feel free to speak about what's important to you and how your values and beliefs affect your situation but please don't assume that everyone else is the same. Degrading comments about groups of people are subject to removal.

This site does not align itself to any one political, religious, medical or cultural system or bias. Given the evolving and differing natures of understandings, care and treatment of mental health issues and the wide-ranging benefits of different treatments in individuals, the non-professional nature of this site is such that individual perspectives are purely individual opinions. Medical and psychological advice is best sought from the appropriate professionals and it is acknowledged that different people are helped by different practices. Orthodox treatments, although helpful to many is not the only or exclusive method of accessing help.

TROLLING:

The main purpose behind trolling is to get a reaction, good or bad. Trolls don’t care what you say about them as long as you are saying it! What really upsets them more than calling them names is not calling them names. There is a very good reason why forums have notices saying “Don’t feed the trolls”. It’s because it actually works.

There is only ever one way to defeat a troll - Ignore them!

If you feel more action is needed, here are some things that can help.

This forum has a foe feature that stops a foe's posts appearing. If you don’t see a post, you won’t want to reply.

If someone is pretending to be you, report it straight away and only reply to posts with “This is not me” if you HAVE to. Ask the moderators to do a post informing people to ignore those messages instead.

DELETING YOUR POSTS:

This can be done by clicking the "Edit" button at the bottom of the post, then clicking the delete button at the bottom right of the editor window that opens. To list all of your posts, do an advanced search for "posts by this user" and enter your username. There is an option at the bottom left that says "Show Results as;" select "Posts." When you get the list or results, follow the same procedure for deleting the posts. We do not delete users or cancel accounts, however we do give you the ability to delete any information you put on the site. We are not responsible for your posts or removing them. Please be aware that once a post is deleted, you will not be able to restore it at a later time.

You can also delete any profile information you entered, by going through the "User CP" links (should show up at the top left while logged in). The same links you used to enter your profile information can be used to delete it.

Deleting an account can't be reversed shouldn't be done unless the member is sure they will not want access to the account again. Note that deleting an account will not delete your posts. Anyone wishing to rejoin after deleting their account will need to sign up with a new account.
