How many of you have other addictions?

Post by Zsababy »

Just thinking about the addiction aspects of limerance & how we can be possibly wired (or rewired by trauma) for addiction.

I'm a compulsive spender & I do drink a bit much.

I'm trying to go on a shopping diet & my LO is releasing a really cool-looking LP with signed reprints of his art. Double addiction whammy! Two highs in one.

Any other addicts, of any kind, in the house? Do you find that you switch addictions?

I’m definitely addcited to online shopping. Most of the stuff I’m buying I don’t even wear or use. After I open the package I lose all the excitiment and „need” to buy something again. It’s been going on for years.

Gambling. Not fun.

Yeah, been teetering on the edge of alcoholism for quite some time now. Food. Sweets. Sour. Spicy. Also have a tendency of becoming addicted to random subjects or hobbies and that's been an ongoing factor in my life.

If you haven't already, check out Allen Carr's Easy Way To Quit Sugar. Lots of good info, didn't work for me at the time but the quit smoking one did over 30yrs ago. Cold turkey with no withdrawal symptoms (he explains well why it's actually easy!).
I have lost just over 82 lbs by giving up sugar over the last 6 mths. My rule of thumb is if it's more than 10 grams of sugar per 100 grams, it's a no go for me.

As for addictions. Can't say I've got any other than L.Net!!!!!

Thanks David. It's not easy but does get easier. Then there are times I wish I could have this or that, just like you would with any other addiction. Funnily enough, im at the same weight when I met LO before falling limerent. I've been limerentish free for the past few years now and losing this weight feels like a complete cleansing of all things limerence related - the work, the awareness of the past, the cleaning up work related to the awareness, the re-handling of parents, the forgiveness, the continued relational difficulties with my mother and shifting my perspective with respect and kindness (to her and to my adult self - no longer having to nurture my inner child). Just a HUGE weight lifted off my body and mind in more ways than one.

This year, with a new body and perspective, will be about getting every ounce of enjoyment from life. I'll no doubt have the normal stresses life throws at me, just have to be mindful of my weaknesses, like sugar.

Binge eating was my first addiction and it first showed up when I was a kid. Then limerence then spending and now it's mostly a mix of food and limerence.
